In my case the resolution was to wholly uninstall both Mcafee and Adaware with Mcafee being sited as the specific product causing the isue , switch off all services etc other than Microsoft services, download the full SP1 install and then re-attempt.

It was the uninstall of Mcafee that resolved the problem. Although the problem is now resolved thanks MS Support I think that the fact that SP1 and mcafee cant co-exist at install time and the way you lose an hour of install time and then a further hour of 'revert' time is pretty appalling.
